Welcome to Game Jam Laut, where creativity meets the ocean's vast expanse! Following the success of SensARTS 2023, this year's edition will bring together young researchers, digital artists, and video game developers to help raise awareness on ocean protection by creating fun-filled, science-based, truly meaningful games.
Gaming is, by far, the largest and most diverse industry in entertainment. And, far from being (only) a guilty pleasure, recent scientific studies have shown the potential of video games in improving mental health or helping people connect with other people - or with nature! Speaking of science, it is actually strongly connected with technology (just like video games are). In this case we aim at bringing ocean sciences and gaming closer together - and see the magic happen!
Long story short: the ocean generates half of the oxygen we breathe, contains more than 97% of the world's water, it absorbs about 30% of the Carbon dyoxyde we produceā¦ Plus, it's a source of inspiration, entertainment, food, livelihoods, medication, transportation. It is the largest ecosystem on earth and it is the planet's life support system. And this is your chance to make a difference!

The French government has a strong commitment towards nature conservation. As the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) will convene in Nice, France, in June 2025, and within the framework of the 2021-2023 UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, the Embassy of France to Malaysia is supporting this initiative in favor of ocean conservation. The project benefits from the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a special grant awarded through the "Innovation Funds" scheme.
